Missions
Through participation in the various Mens' and Ladies' Fellowship opportunities, UMC members put into practice Christ's commandments to love our neighbors as ourselves. Some of the missions in which we are involved include:
UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) - First UMC has a trailer loaded and ready with staff that will depart to assist in any emergency that we are called to assist in.
Redbird School - Red Bird Mission School serves 265 students in grades K-12 and centers on developing the full potential of its students in a Christian atmosphere. The school is operated independently by the Mission and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the University Senate of the United Methodist Church. Red Bird Mission School provides quality education to students of the Red Bird area regardless of their ability to pay.
Nathaniel Mission - The Nathaniel Mission provides services to families in need through its Prayer Clinic, Shalom Initiative, God's Pantry, a Pharmacy, a Vet Clinic and a Dental Clinic. Visit the Nathaniel Mission website for more details.
Kentucky United Methodist Children's Home - The Kentucky Methodist Children's Homes is a non-profit organization serving all ages of children through a variety of programs. First UM of Cynthiana assists the Children's Home located in Versailles, KY. The home was originally established in 1871 as the Widows and Orphans Home, but today has adapted to meet the needs of adolescent children with histories of abuse, neglect, abandonment, and family trauma.
Community Outreach
In addition to lending support to these United Methodist missions, First UMC members are involved in meeting the needs of Christ's people here in our own community. Some of our activities include:
- Preschool Program - Meets in the Educational Building on the first floor of the church on Monday, Wednesday and Friday – ages 3 through 5. For more information, see our Youth page.
- Food Pantry Collection
- Adult Art Classes – 2nd Saturday of each month
- Annual Christmas Bazaar
- Prayer Chain
- Vacation Bible School/Family Bible Adventure - A week-long summer Bible study through music, fellowship and children’s arts and crafts. Children through adults.
- Scouting Activities. First UMC is home to Boy Scout Troop 60, led by Jim Swinford, Jim Brooks and Robert Palmer. For more information, see our Youth page.
