Music Staff
Iva Ewalt has been a dedicated pianist at First UMC for over 30 years; her husband, Ed sings in the choir and they often perform special music together.
Dr James Simpson, our organist, has been with us at Cynthiana FUMC for several years. Dr Simpson and his lovely wife, Kim, are the parents of two grown children, We are happy to have Dr Simpson with us at First UMC.
Music Groups
The First UMC Choir and special music throughout the year is directed by Steve Strawzell. Anyone interested is welcome to join the choir – just come to practice on Wednesday evenings 7:00 PM. Music Worship Leaders are Ed Taylor and Larry Barnes who lead the congregation in lifting our voices high!
The Music Praise Team is led by Rhonda Strawzell and is open to anyone who might like to help out or share their talents. You don’t have to be a church member to participate. The Strawzell family, Joseph Ammerman, David Lewis and Isaac Lyons are our most active participants. The Praise Team leads worship the 4th Sunday of each month. Special guests are welcome to participate. If you are a musician interested in sharing your talents with First UMC, contact Steve or Rhonda Strawzell.
Bell Choir is made up of students in the youth group and is led by Tallu Smith. The Bell Choir practices on Sundays at 5:00 pm.
Special Music is also provided during important events and worship services.
IT Group The IT Group Technical Advisor is Chris Anderson who is ably assisted by “Balconites” Wylie Caudill, Malinda Fryman, and Ann Courtney. The “Balconites” are responsible for making sure the computers and music equipment are in sync and working properly to provide assistance to our pastor, musicians, singers, and congregation.
